Weekend Recap

Tyler and I had a great weekend hanging out, eating good food, seeing friends, and exploring the city. We kicked off the weekend with dinner and a movie...Tyler was so sweet and offered to make dinner, which was such a nice treat to come home to! He made Mongolian Beef with steamed rice and even went as far as making an appetizer plate of sliced apples, crackers, and Smoked Gouda cheese. I'm happy to report the Mongolian Beef recipe is "husband proof!" The food was delicious and I think Tyler has a new appreciation for all of the grocery shopping, meal planning, and cooking I do :) We concluded our night by watching a cheesy Christmas movie, Four Christmases.

Saturday, we relaxed around the apartment and then decided to grab brunch before Tyler headed to the library for a fun filled day of studying...not! I spent the day getting caught up and baking lemon blueberry bread (post to come shortly). Saturday evening, I planned a date night exploring all of the Christmas lights in the city. We started our evening in Union Square where there was a little holiday boutique and farmer's market. We had dinner reservations a Mesa Grill, which was a treat! One of our groomsmen, Nick, gave us a Bobby Flay cookbook and a gift certificate to his restaurant on 5th Ave.

Above is a picture of my pork tenderloin. The food was absolutely phenomenal and had such a great time. (Thanks so much Nick!!!)

After stuffing our faces, we walked up 5th Ave. from 16th Street to 50th Street to see the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Plaza. Along 5th Ave., we stopped to see all of the lights and window displays at the department stores. Here's a picture of the awesome Lord and Taylor window displays:

We eventually made it to Rockefeller Plaza and were shocked to see so many people! We realized people weren't moving because of the Saks Fifth Avenue Light Show. Here's a picture of the light show:

Despite being really crowded, it was so fun seeing the tree and walking around. Here are a few tree pictures:

We then walked through Time Square and made our way to Columbus Circle to see the lights before heading home. We had such a fun date night and really enjoyed exploring the city!

We woke up relatively early Sunday morning and headed to one of Tyler's classmate's apartment for brunch to meet his wife and new baby. Tyler and Sean are in the same class and play rugby together. We've gotten to know Sean over the course of the fall and were really excited to meet his wife and new baby, who just arrived after Thanksgiving from Germany. We had a really nice brunch and got to play with the baby! Unfortunately, Tyler had to head to the library to get some studying done, so I headed to ABC Kitchen to meet one of my best friends, Jacqui, for a late lunch. The decor at ABC Kitchen was so pretty and the lighting was awesome.....Here's a picture of a chandelier to give you an idea of what the restaurant is like.

The food was fabulous and the company was awesome :) Thanks Jacqui for the great date! Tyler and I ended our weekend with a great home cooked meal and watching our favorite TV shows.....I know, we sound like an old married couple, but we both love quiet Sunday nights!
